JAEGER-LeCOULTRE Reverso XL Automatic "Grand Modèle" Limited Edition of 100 watches (discontinued) Wempe" ["A Century of Wempe Chronometry"] History : In 1931, when Friedrich Leutert – subsequently the director of Wempe Chronometerwerke – was working on an ultra-precision minute tourbillon, this Swiss watchmaking company from the Vallée de Joux launched a style icon of art déco: the Reverso reversible watch. As in standard marine chronometers, the mechanism in this piece is also flexibly mounted. But for a different reason: in light of the relative fragility of the crystal glass common at the time, the reversible case offered effective protection. Given the centennial anniversary of Wempe Chronometerwerke, the "Reverso Grande Automatique" has been a major focus at Jaeger-LeCoultre during 2005. For the limited edition, the mechanism has been enhanced with a number of special functions: for example, the winder can move a secondary hour hand back or forward at hourly intervals to display a different time zone, while the day/night indicator prevents any confusion concerning this second time zone.
